July 11 - Day 37 - The Blind Leading the Blind

I must admit it was difficult to leave the comfort of the Water Tower Hotel in the Soo, but a beautiful day was unfolding, with sunny skies and warm temperatures.  We were anxious to ride a full day in warm dry weather for the first time in weeks, and broke out the riding shorts and short sleeved jerseys for the occasion.  The recon we had was to take the old Trans Canada when leaving town, to avoid the well known lack of shoulders on the expressway leaving the Soo.  We did that and it was a lovely ride out.  John leading the group as he said he would for the duration of his stay with us, and his pace was excellent.
When we rejoined the main highway we found minimal shoulders to ride on, although it was a 4 lane roadway.  It still gets really close sometimes when the transport trucks are boxed in and have to pass you without moving over.  The real pain in the ass occurred about 50km into the ride when we entered a construction zone, consisting of a top scratched surface awaiting new asphalt that we had to ride on for approximately 15km.  The vibration was incredibly bad, but thankfully it was done with in about 45 minutes and we were back on a smooth surface.

By the time the Bill’s caught us, we were 15km from Thessalon and decided to stop there for lunch.  What a cute little resort town.  Can’t believe some of the businesses have gone down the tubes, but guess things just get old and tired, and people stop coming.

With a hearty lunch (actually all-day breakfast) we were back on the road heading for Blind River, another 60km down the road.  The terrain had been quite flat so far, and continued that way after lunch, so we made great time and arrived at MacIver's Motel Campground mid-afternoon.  It was really a smooth non-eventful day, with some quick riding, and nice early arrival at our destination, therefore plenty of time to prep for dinner, and when we all got it going there were some great fajitas, and fresh guacamole to munch on.  Early to bed, tomorrow is another day.  No wifi here at MacIvers......you'd think he could rig something up!......will post tomorrow.......Cheers
